comment Writing generic code when your target is a C compiler
Did you know that the standard C library qsort() function is already polymorphic, using a completely different technique?

Does this technique have a name? Perhaps "X-Macros"?

comment Why hasn't a faster, “better” language than C come out?
@poundifdef People have been able to return a struct containing multiple values in the C language for decades. It's part of ANSI C, also called C89. (You could only return one value, in the earliest K&R C compilers).

@MarjanVenema: "Bootstrapping a simple compiler from nothing" sounds pretty similar -- see stackoverflow.com/questions/13537/bootstrapping-a-language for some discussion.

comment How to calculate checksum?
@Marcin and Ramhound: Since apparently this is the only checksum the device on the other end of the LIS network will accept, then any other checksum -- even those that are technically better -- won't work on that network. I don't see how it is helpful to point out a bunch of "choices" that won't work with the original poster's hardware.
