comment Source Control: Roles and Responsibilities - Best Practices
Care to tell us the putative reasons given for such a byzantine procedure? My guess is "CMM Level N compliance" or "Sarbanes Oxley".

comment Are C and/or C++ viable/practical options for web development?
There's an entire web server, G-WAN, written in C and using C as it's "scripting language". Looks interesting to me, and probably something you want to check out.

comment Research on software defects
If I recall, Andy Ozment's paper is a reaction to Rescola's viewpoint, so if you liked Rescorla, make an effort to read "Milk or Wine" as well.

comment Why do organizations limit source code access to engineers?
Pics or it didn't happen, as the saying goes. I've worked at a lot of places, and either "IP" theft doesn't happen or it doesn't matter. There, my assertion is as good as yours.

comment Insert grammatical mistakes in a correct sentence
Not directly programming-related, but is there a name for deliberately inserting mistakes? "Anti-typo" is not quite correct. Also, what is the name for putting in the correct word, when you desire to put in a misspelling, grammatical error or poor usage?

comment Copyright statements in source code
I don't believe that failing to protect a copyright has anything to do with its protection, at least in the USA. I believe you're confusing trademark with copyright. In commercial speech, failing to protect a trademark can cause the trademark to lose its special status. That's why I personally can talk about "Windows", but Microsoft documents are always larded with those "TM" and "R" superscripts.

For those answering "see a lawyer (in your jurisdiction)", what can we expect a lwyer to tell us different than what you say? I don't mean this to be snarky, just wondering what, if anything, a lawyer can say differently than some random programmer. For example, in the USA, copyright infringement isn't something you can inspect for, it has to go to trial. Also in the USA, anyone can sue anyone else for any thing, and you don't always have to pay everything if you lose. After the USA started observing the Berne Convention in 1976, notices don't have all that much extra meaning.

comment What Part of Your Project Should be in Source Code Control?
Make sure that the "certain documentation" isn't dependent on a particular tool. I've run into a number of projects that used something like SunOS version of Frame to do docs, they checked in all of the ".mif" files, but not the resulting .ps or .pdf files. Now that SunOS and Frame are relegated to the dustbin of history, a lot of design docs only exist as treasured paper copies.

comment Differences between programming in school vs programming in industry?
I'm going to have to disagree about the "actually be used" part. During the early-mid 90s, I went 5 years, at 3 different companies, large, small and medium, and nothing I wrote went into production. I don't think this is that uncommon of an experience.

After looking at the source, I did remember using the bochs emulator, so I added that.
