I agree, it really depends on what type of work you do. I would assume that a great chunk of coding, is basic simplified code revolving around basic MVC and oop structures using basic operators. A small chunk of total programming time involves sophisticated issues that will compel a person to delve into specs.

That's an excellent point, I never thought about that. Or at least once closed source, I can always release the "core" part of the application as open source
