comment Is it a good practice to declare instance variables as None in a class in Python?
Default values for parameters, and the ability to take arbitrary positional and keyword arguments makes it much less painful than one would expect. (And it is actually possible to delegate construction to other methods or even stand-alone functions, so if you really need multiple dispatch you can do that too).

Changing the order of inheritance in Bang to Bar, Foo would also fix the problem - but your point is a good one, +1.

@MiguelM - It should have been The Definitive Guide ... The Good Parts is also a good book - but it's focus is JavaScript and it doesn't really touch the DOM much (and it doesn't touch jQuery at all).
