comment Why use a database instead of just saving your data to disk?
@Dokkat, I hope that nobody kicks the power cord in between depositing funds in your bank account and "periodically" writing the account balance to disk. You've described a guaranteed data loss architecture. That is fine for some applications, but most database applications give users the power to choose. You can run a single database node with backups and risk some data loss or use replication to eliminate data loss if a single node fails.

comment Are there any statically-typed Web scripting languages?
Don't confuse strong and static typing. Haskell has strong static types, Python has strong dynamic types.

comment Are there any statically-typed Web scripting languages?
I removed my opinion about static languages not being scripting languages, it wasn't relevant. To everyone who pointed out that C can be interpreted, interpreting != scripting. Scripting is something you do with a language, not an inherent language property, but some languages are much better than others.

comment How do you proactively guard against errors of omission?
Kind of like asking: Is a way to prevent me from doing subtraction when I meant to do addition?

comment How do I convince my fellow devs to WANT to add comments to source code commits?
Me too. Back when I had to complete a lot of fine-grained time-sheets I would use the commit time stamps to estimate how much time I spent on each task.

comment Should developers accept overtime/weekend work/denied bonus payments?
It could also be a sign of a good process with unreasonable deadlines.

comment How to apologize when you have broken the nightly build
It could be worse, when we deployed my first project, it took out all of our web services (in production).
