comment Is the use of security conditionals in a view a violation of MVC?
This was my thought. The controller should handle any security checks, get the correct information from the model based on that, and pass the result to the appropriate view.

comment is it okay to remove copyright info from a free, open source API even if you are explicitly told not to do so?
This is the MIT license, at least a very common form of it.

comment How to handle timezone for dates?
"for 50 hours, somewhere on the world it is the 21st Dec. 2012" You mean for 26 hours, right?

comment Is there a quick and practical (hands on) way to learn another programming language?
"Try to solve a problem in the new language." Yup. Try to build something in the new language, even if it's simple.

"Have you identified someone at the company who "gets it"" LOL

comment How do you balance between “do it right” and “do it ASAP” in your daily work?
I'd have loved to have the time type an answer like this, but I have a client whinging to my boss on the phone. "Often the sales team gets us into trouble just to get a commission." Same here...but somehow they still get those bonuses!

comment Should we hire a new developer now, or wait until the code is refactored to make it suitable for a team environment?
+1 for those last three sentences (of the penultimate paragraph now that's it's been edited). The part about the Porsche, well any CEO of a small firm knows he ain't gonna get one with a sole developer.

comment PHP frameworks - should I use them?
Then best of luck to you! Growing with a company as they do has been a great experience for me. There are a lot of things I don't enjoy about being a manager now (I wish I had more time to write code!), but I have a new thing I find rewarding now, which is watching younger developers smile when they find a solution to something that seemed impossible a week ago.

comment If you had to teach professional development to students that just graduated school, what would be the topics?
+1 for mentioning complex database systems. I find this to be true as well with younger new hires.
