comment Does IE have more strict Javascript parsing than Chrome?
@Phil Joe I'd right. Wrapping jQuery code in jQuery's domready event won't solve the problem because the domready function is part of the jQuery library.

@BartvanIngenSchenau Do you expect the OP to accept this answer and say "Ooh thanks, I didn't know!"? Probably not. I'm perfectly fine with a small note about "premature optimization", but not if the answer stops at that.

This should be a comment at most, because it doesn't answer the question.

comment How easy is it to hack JavaScript (in a browser)?
Using a prompt adds little security. An attacker can override the window.prompt method in order to intercept the pass phrase, or launch an own prompt (possibly within an iframe!). A password field has one additional benefit: the characters are not shown.

Your answer did not address the question (scroll up and read the title / boldfaced text).

revised Why do node packages put a comma on a newline?
Emphasized that the error only occurs within object literals, and only by IEs JavaScript engine. More information in comments; Corrected own typo

comment Why do node packages put a comma on a newline?
Old Internet Explorer (IE ≤ 7) versions choke on the comma, in different ways: Within object literals, ({a:1,}) an error occurs. Within array literals, [,], the length is incorrectly set (the length must be one, but it's actually 2; IE ≤ 8).
