comment What is the order analysis of the following (using a list of primes)
Yes you only need to check up to sqrt(n) as if its composite one of the factors must be less than this. Complexity may turn out to be better than this. For large n its more than likely it will not be prime so you don't need to do all n/log(n) divisions.

@user50849: This might be a difference between a mathematical set, which is a fixed thing and a Set data structure which can be varied over time.
