A classic example is visual borders. Yeah, this is exactly what I mean, and the reasons are convincing. this is a point of view that assumes the user can be expected to rise up to some standard of familiarity with the program What about some everyday applications? A browser maybe? I guess the 10% chance button should also be there, since the browser is used for such a long time that 10% can be called "often". Stack Overflow is simple I don't know, but stack overflow never seemed flat to me. It's just so comfortable.

For example, a button, you don't have to learn anything before clicking it. Why does this little button has to be plain? Even the "Add Comment" button here looks prettier.
