I'm a .NET developer working primarily in C#. I also enjoy photography and long walks on the beach. Actually I hate beaches.

Object-Oriented Design of Car +1 Context is key. The number of times this has happened to me - Client asks me to build x. I ask why they want x, and they say they need x to solve problem y. But problem y isn't solved by x, or is better solved by z, so I give them z. |

Is it unusual for a small company (15 developers) not to use managed source/version control? So how do you revert a change? Is it possible? Can you see the change history of a given file? What about merging changes? shudder |

What should take precedence: YAGNI or Good Design? I never knew Mozart was terrible at making acronyms. I learn something new every day on an SE site. :P |

How do you sell the idea of sending developers to user conferences? Mining conferences are very different. They're more like vendor expo's then actual conferences. And I meant that your answer is about as useful as suggesting you slap your boss in the face as a way of convincing him to send you to a conference. |

How do you sell the idea of sending developers to user conferences? Also just to clarify, our company is a small mining consulting company, with a startup sized team making some software we're selling to other mining groups. That's why my boss is a mining engineer. |

How do you sell the idea of sending developers to user conferences? What if my boss isn't a Software manager? I'm the most senior Software person at the company, and my boss is the Managing Director who's training is as a Mining Engineer. Does that count as a real degree? I'm not saying he can't be convinced I'm just saying your answer is about as useful as slapping him in the face. |

How do you sell the idea of sending developers to user conferences? How is this a useful answer?!? If someone doesn't know something, instead of just giving up straight away maybe you should at least attempt to educate them. -1. |

Does anyone know when Microsoft PDC for 2011 will be, and where? That azure contest doesn't say PDC. It says the winners get to go to Microsoft. That doesn't mean there's a PDC but everyone assumes that what it means. |

How much storage space do developers really need on work systems? No one will ever need more than 64k... |

Have programmers at your work not taken up or been averse to an offer of a second monitor? This might have been a reasonable answer if it wasn't also filled with so much elitism and Windows bashing. |
