comment How can software be protected from piracy?
@RAOF: GPL software is not technically free, it comes with very restrictive conditions. I do make a caveat on my definition in the answer, "you can do whatever you want with it, even sell it".

comment Choosing a Programming Language
@Eonil: This answer is not an attack on tools, it does not say tools are bad, or even that they are not exceptionally valuable and highly prized. It simply says that a good craftsman does not learn his tool, he learns his craft - if he has a good tool that he enjoys using, he will use it often. That does not mean he should only be able to work with that one tool.

comment What 3-4 languages provide the best variety in style?
@AndresF.: I would argue (and have above) that my choice is valid for my intention. I use distinctive to mean the most commonly experienced in this sense, as in most common/average/normal for its type. Your use of "middle-of-the-road" precisely fits that.

comment Is recursion an instance of being “too clever” when programming?
Aye, it is an eternal problem of recursive function design. More an issue for the language designers to address than the programmer, ideally.

@GlennNelson: Yes, I was jumping on your slightly sarky remark, as it is an area I think important. I use to be a regular, but got fed up with the iron fist of moderation.

Sounds like a good idea @GlennNelson, I wish people would put as much effort in to correcting bad moderation (community or mod), unjust closes, invalid edits, etc. as they do shutting things down. Reopen is important and rarely used.
