comment Workflow on Development and Production Servers for a Consistently Updating Website
We don't release any stable versions of updates since each of our developers acts independently of each other (they work on their own set of features for the website), so I was really looking for a way just to bridge the development server's repository to the production server's work tree.

comment Which is more valuable in product development: an action-oriented or visionary bent?
"When one eye is fixed upon your destination, there is only one eye left with which to find the way" That said, +1 to AdityaGameProgrammer.

comment Does music increase your productivity?
Why fight fire with fire when you can extinguish it entirely? Fire being music and external sounds. Personally, if I can't hear myself think, then I'm not being as productive as I should be.

comment Should we leave our contact details in source code?
Aha! Time to complain to NetBeans about their default templates.

comment Should managers prohibit programmers from using IM in office?
If not, you could always send text-messages, e-mails, and IMs through your mobile device.

comment Why is there a decline in CS majors?
Really? The Borders in my area has an entire section dedicated to computer books (O'Reilly and all those other publishers).

comment Why is there a decline in CS majors?
Sorry, I might've phrased that wrong. It's more difficult to program with low-level structures in lieu of things on the web but I have no doubt that there are exceptions for people that already have a strong foundation without formal education.

The statistical comparison is awesome. I think I see why business is so complex without them.

comment Why is there a decline in CS majors?
I agree that programming has become much easier since I transitioned from web development into low-level scripting e.g. Socket Programming but my primary concern is the piece of paper that certain employers demand. With the current economy, I'd like to have a large pool of employers to choose from.

comment Will high reputation in Stack Overflow help to get a good job?
That's anecdotal evidence as user8149 has also demonstrated. If there isn't statistical evidence or actual case studies, it isn't reliable.

comment When do you have enough experience?
"Make it as broad and rounded as you possibly can (don't stick too closely to a narrow disciple). Specialising too early is not good." -- I think that's some great advice because I've learned a lot from moving between various PLs that all seem to interweave at some point.

Always great to find someone with similar experiences. Do you think higher education could offer chances to get involved (as in participation in research and projects) in some innovative new technologies that small startups can't offer?--because I've heard of how slow the education system can be in technology because of standards. I think that would be my primary motivation to tackle a degree at a well-known university.

comment How competitive is the Computer Science major at Universites?
In terms of academia, I haven't been doing well in school because my GPA is 3.2 and my current SAT score is 1750. Not so amazing and I was hoping that my "extracurricular" activities in managing a web server as well as my work experience for various startup companies involving web design, forum modifications, and video streaming would contribute to acceptance. Because I've been told that non-school-related activities are insignificant, I've lost hope and I was thinking that my choice in my major could renew that hope.
