comment Is the creation of brand new software generally a major part of most programming jobs?
@PéterTörök, I have an idea for a new question. "As a Consultant, what is the single best thing I can do to ensure any dev who has to maintain my code is as miserable as possible?"

@PéterTörök, Yup that would be me. I hope you enjoy your job security :)

On the contrast, an easy 90% of my work is creating new things. Granted, I worked at a startup and now a consultant so I might be one of the lucky ones. Maintenance is not something I have to do often. Maybe 1 day a week at most

comment How do you integrate Testing into a Scrum process?
In my experience, most users don't care how well a story was tested (until it breaks). A DoD is a great yardstick to know when something is ready for acceptance.

comment How to estimate a timeboxed spike using story points?
Where I worked, it was more like a 50% chance 3 was longer than 5. They are so close I often pushed to remove some number. IMO, I wanted to drop the "standard" numbers and have 1,5,13,20,40. How often do you really need the difference in 1 and 2? 2 and 3? even 8 was hit or miss for us.

+1 I never worry about spikes in velocity calcs

comment Right design pattern to use StopWatch class
I wonder if this will give accurate timings. What I mean is how much slower is this than having the start/stop sprinkled in your code? I doubt it will be significant for most apps, but in some mobile games FPS is everything and you don't want as true timings as you can get.
