comment How are crossplatform/multiple-OS C++ projects planned in terms of code and tools?
So then if not #ifdef, does it make more sense to start a separate project in Windows and keep a separate project in Linux? More specifically, do you know how companies generally do this kind of thing? Eg: Git, Clearcase, Firefox, BuildBot, Eclipse - All these softwares have been made as a version for Windows and a version for Linux. How do they do it?

I want the file to be local. No uploading/downloading.

sorry, about configuration management, I meant to type "believes that it's not necessary to integrate configuration management with development tools". I've added an edit to my question.

My friends and their seniors are un-initiated into the culture of nightly builds and CI. That's why they can't yet see the benefit of it or about how to go about implementing it. Nice to know it can be used for any kind of project. I guess I'll try using these tools to create a demo project at home to try and introduce the concept.

@Mudassir: Akash's question is specific and relevant to anyone who does programming in various foreign-languages. I don't think his question is un-welcome here.

comment Dealing with engineers that frequently leave their jobs
Asking a newbie where they see themselves in 5 years time is overkill. You'd get a half-baked answer borrowed from multiple people who've been interviewing.
