C++ is the king

comment Why is Python written in C and not in C++?
I think you miss the point as there's quite a difference (for people working on the interpreter itself) what language the interpreter is written in. The language influences how these primitives look like and how they interact with each other. For instance now, in C implementation of Python, one has to remember to increment and decrement reference counts manually whereas it might be possible to use smart pointers in C++ for this.

@DeadMG OO language is not the one which enables you to implement OO ideas but one which does it for you :)

By this measure you should close half of the questions on this site as well. This attitude to general questions brings Josef Stalin's proverb One death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic. to mind.

This is the first time I've heard an argument that the existence of two products wastes anything and you haven't provided evidence of that. I thought it's self evident. What about all these questions How do I do in B what I already do in A like this?? People already know how to do something but are forced to learn how to do the same thing differently. It's pure waste of time and energy. How about time wasted on integration of projects and systems, half of which use Mercurial and the second half use Git?

@delnan You don't have to convince all. You need to build up momentum. Have you noticed how I didn't include any other DCVS and there are a few? So we are already down to 2 from 14 :) Now we need to merge these two into one.

@Paul It wouldn't hurt to give a link to back up your opinion.

@Larry I did see this rant and lost almost all respect for Linus after reading it. Shame on him.
