comment Why is Visual Basic easier to learn than Java for COBOL developers?
@Murph : I did gwBasic->Basic->Pascal->Delphi->Java->C# , moving from Basic to Pascal was a struggle, since I had already established ideas that would have not worked when moved across. also Moving from Delphi->Java and Java->C# was not easy, but not simply because of the language ( Java and C# almost look identical ). I have seen non OO programs being written in OO languages, the person carries over the ideas that were ok in their previous environment to the new one, and instead of learning the new paradigm, tries to hammer the old pegs into new holes.

@Pemdas : how many bilingual people do you know that they speak their second language better than or just as good as the first one? Once somebody leans a language, it effects the way they learn their second language. They would constantly revert back to what they know. With human languages people call it poor language skills but yet can understand him, however a compiler is not as forgiving.

@Pemdas : It is not learning VB6 that is destructive, but learning it prior to learning Java. The framework that VB6 uses compromises learning of Java's frame work. Even learning VB6 before learning VB.net causes problems. Why not teach Java first, which is a more up do date language than VB6 and then teach the archaic VB6?

comment Do most programmers copy and paste code?
The fastest way to import code is by copy and paste but one should review and if needed modify the code before plunking it into a project and forget about it.
