the SCJP book has aprox 1000 pages. if you did not worked before with Java\C++, I don't think a week is enough.

the problem is not the language, the 'real' problem and time consuming are the frameworks. Even you know Java (as a programming language) you don't know how to work with Spring, Hibernate, etc. And you can not jump into a team where after 1-2 weeks you must be productive. this is what HR is looking in the last time. best regards,
