@sbi: You might be surprised. Where I work, we were indeed required to sing the contract. In fact, it took about 40hrs to sing the whole thing. (there was a lot of fine print.) The was peculiarly bad, because I have a poor singing voice.

While I agree that this does not call for a "falling on the sword" level apology, I think it does call for an "oops, my bad" level apology. Not every 'I'm sorry' needs to be abject.
