comment Do I need to handle licenses of immediate dependenies?
Certainly if you licence under GPL since it's quite restrictive. Most open-source libraries used in proprietary software are probably MIT or BSD, or Boost for that matter. It's not impossible and once you've done your homework, you'll be able to handle yourself better.

comment Where does test fixture code fit in?
Thanks for the answer, I'll give it ago and get back to you. The problem at the moment is that they've decided to keep the code that generates the test data together with the code which runs the test. One of the big draw backs is that we can't have a continuous integration system so we have to rely on human beings who are notoriously unreliable (myself included).
