comment BitBucket - what's the catch? (TANSTAAFL, right?)
@Tivie - Twitter has been blocked in the PRC since 2009 or so. Same with Facebook and YouTube and a variety of other similar sites.

@Tivie - not at all. Twitter has been harmonized (is not available without VPN).

comment Why most people change from being a contractor to full time at my companies, but not the other way around?
@JimG. - consultants market themselves based on past successes. We've all seen the penultimate PPT slide with two dozen logos for important companies that the consulting group has already worked with. When you first turn consultant you don't have that instant credibility. It certainly snowballs, but getting the pebble rolling down the hill in the offing can take some work.

it's all crawlers - just Yandex and Baidu so far, not google.

oooh, code 400, very nice! That will hopefully help them clean up their bad data rather than repeatedly ping for these false links.

comment handling a GET error properly
@Hand-E-Food - I separate them because they are stored in different tables in the database and have very different properties. By receiving a type my code knows which table to query, and which class to create an object from. It simplifies things for me without adding any overhead to the UX.

comment Is there a limit on how many global consts are used before an application is considered bad programming?
I like the first option listed a lot. If you neatly organize all those constants into a config file you'll dramatically simplify their understanding and management for new users.

comment What is the relevance of resumes in the age of GitHub, Stack Exchange, Coursera, Udacity, blogs, etc.?
+1 - telling me to go sift through all the other stuff just tells me that you are wholly unable to communicate effectively with others. That may or may not be true, of course, but that's the impression it creates.

comment Every SQL statement has to be reviewed by a DBA — common?
@Karpie, at least (s)he took the time to respond drawing from his own experience, rather than making a worthless, sarcastic comment on someone else's answer like Karpie did.

comment Why is the folder name “bin” used in some frameworks and languages?
hmm, that makes me young (or ignorant (or ignorant and young)) ... I had always assumed it was bin as in container, ex: trash bin... >_>

comment What are some games involving recursion?
In China, for corporate team building, I've seen places that do ToH with various sizes of tractor tires. The largest generally requires ~10 people to lift together. Ouch!
