"I have a master's degree, I interned on Capitol Hill, I helped my professor write an encyclopedia, I speak two languages, I had a 3.7 GPA and I can't find more than a part-time job," she said."
Hurrah for graduating in 2009!

How do early version numbers work for new products? @RossPatterson Upvotes and accepts are semantically different; this answer contains a lot of good information, but I don't think it's "the answer," so acceptance doesn't feel right. |

What is an example of a good SMART objective for a programmer? I really like this answer, but I think it might be more appropriate as a response to the "original" question than this question. |

Where can I get programming books? @user, in theory, yes, I suppose so. But in real life, that takes effort, and usually a non-trivial amount. Although I will say that I broke my own rule and bought a used book last week, and am quite satisfied with it. |

Where can I get programming books? @David, that's bad wording on my part. I meant that they don't have them in stock, and at that point it's easier to just order online than to wait for the store to get a special order in. I've updated the question. |

What reasons might a programmer have for wanting hyperthreading turned off? @JBK Good question, I don't know, I don't have one of those machines myself. |

How can I find sets of numbers that sum to a certain number? Were they asking you to write a program or describe an algorithm to do this? |

How do early version numbers work for new products? This would be a good answer for some of the related questions I listed in my post -- and, in fact, is pretty similar to some of the existing answers to those questions -- but doesn't really address the "version zero" case I'm asking about. |

How do early version numbers work for new products? Wow, that's... quite an edit. I'd upvote you again if I could. |

How do early version numbers work for new products? I thought about this, but I can't quite wrap my head around what version 0 represents. The difference between 0.1 and 0.2, and between 0.3.2 and 0.3.3, simultaneously do and don't make sense to me according to the "minor release"/"bugfix patch" model. |

What should my “code sample” look like? +1! I've only been asked for a code sample before one interview, but I had a heck of a time trying to figure out what they were judging me on. Was it code efficiency? Creativity? Documentation skill? Preferred indentation style? I have no idea. (I played it safe and got invited to an interview, FWIW.) |

New grad with my first programming job lined up: What is the advice you wish you had at this stage? Obligatory Joel Spolsky link (it's relevant though, or at least it might be, since you said "another place still courting me") |

What are the best practices of Java Swing development? I appreciate your opinion, but "don't use Swing" isn't helpful for people who end up at this question because they're being forced to use Swing for one reason or another. |

Design pattern for window management in a Java Swing app -1. This is a design pattern question. Recommending changing the specs I was given and ending with "I don't know if there is a specific design pattern" doesn't answer it. |

Why are strings so slow? @seh, unfortunately, I actually can't answer that. The few times I've actually asked people what strings are slower than, they just kind of shrug and say "they're just slow." Besides, if I had more specific information, this would be a question for SO, not Programmers; it's already kinda borderline. |

When someone asks you what you do, what do you say (e.g. programmer, developer, code monkey)? I don't use this exact mapping, but +1 for "it depends on the situation." When is that not the right answer, really? |
