How can I teach a bright person, with no programming experience, how to program? @quant_dev I realize he's not trying to become 'awesome' but I feel that programming improvement happens in spurts, and usually with alot of effort each time. If he wants to go from "sucks" to "ok" it's still going to be a huge investment, one that he'll probably never feel is worth it, no matter how you slice it. |

How can I teach a bright person, with no programming experience, how to program? @quant_dev If he can't invest 3 months, then he'll never be a programmer because he doesn't want it bad enough. He didn't become a great theoretical physicist via casual involvement. |

What counts as reinventing the wheel? @Anto: Open source isn't something I generally deal with, but yes that is the exception. |

What counts as reinventing the wheel? I like to tell people "I can build anything, but I can't force someone else to build new features into their library, or fix their bugs!" |

How do software projects go over budget and under-deliver? Great answer, I have personally experienced all of these |

Defect statuses: “WON'T FIX” vs “Cancelled” These descriptions make just as much sense if you reverse them: "The ticket is Cancelled because it's not a bug", "We Won't Fix it because it's trivial" |

How do you track bugs in your personal projects? @bedwyr Good point, I guess it's a matter of preference. I actually would fix that defect immediately, since we're talking about a small one-man project. If I were in a big corporate setting, different story. |

How do you track bugs in your personal projects? @bedwyr if you stick to the rule of fixing all known defects before implementing new features, this is a non issue. |

Why is VB so popular? If you pronounce it Gee-You-I then you can prevent your windows from melting and making a mess on the floor. |

What's your favourite quote about programming? @Malfist: Yes it is. 0 = 0, 00 = 1, 000 = 2, 0000 = 3 |
