Making the switch from hardcore C++ dev to other things. Would like to earn the gold badge in something else :).

@Tesserex wow you sound like you are the company. Sounds like you should lay it on the line and as diplomatically as possible let them know that you will gladly take your skills elsewhere if things don't work out.

@Tesserex, there's sites like www.virtualvocations.com that specialize in telecommuniting jobs. Maybe that would be an option if there's not a lot in your area.

@Kavet, most importantly I'd tell people that that's what the CEO said to do so that's what your going to do, and if they have a problem take it up with the CEO. I've been in your situation, unfortunately, the appeasment/pleasing/want-to-do-a-good-job-for-everyone strategy doesn't work. You've got to show them that you're frustrated, angry, and prepared to leave if they can't get their act together. Be fully prepared to leave too, sounds like there's a good chance they won't get their act together :(

+1 there's a way to give honest feedback about an institution and your experience without character assassination of any particular person.

Plus you have a profession where you get to build cool and interesting things. Honestly, what more could anyone ask for.
